La Primera División argentine de 1936 était la 45e saison de football de haut niveau en Argentine . Deux championnats réguliers ont été disputés cette année-là, la "Copa de Honor" (remportée par San Lorenzo ) et la "Copa Campeonato" (remportée par River Plate ).

A la fin de la saison, les deux champions, River et San Lorenzo, ont disputé un seul match pour le trophée "Copa de Oro". River Plate a remporté le match, qui serait reconnu comme un titre de champion supplémentaire.

Trophée disputé par les deux champions des deux compétitions disputées cette année-là, San Lorenzo (Copa de Honor) et River Plate (Copa Campeonato). En juin 2013 (77 ans après le match), l' AFA a cité sur son site Internet la "Copa de Oro" comme titre de champion de River Plate. La "Copa de Honor" a également été incluse comme titre de champion pour San Lorenzo de Almagro.

Néanmoins, certains historiens considèrent la "Copa de Oro" comme un titre de coupe nationale, au lieu d'un championnat de ligue, affirmant que cette coupe n'était disputée que pour qualifier un représentant argentin pour jouer la Copa Aldao contre le champion uruguayen. Sinon, le Memoria y Balance 1936 de l'AFA (rapport annuel) a cité River Plate comme « Campeón 1936 », mentionnant les deux titres remportés, Copa de Oro et Copa Campeonato, tandis que San Lorenzo n'est mentionné que comme « vainqueur de la Copa de Honor ».
